Cathedral Basilica Assignment

The Cathedral Basilica is a beautiful basilica here in St. Louis. You can either visit the basilica with your instructor on Wednesday October 17, or arrange a visit on your own.

Assignment

Find at least 5 different rozettes, 5 different border patterns and 3 different wallpaper patterns. Take photographs of these geometric shapes and determine their symmetry group.

Turn In

• Print outs of your rozettes, border patterns and wallpaper patterns with the symmetry groups correctly identified. They should all have different symmetry groups!

Grading

• 25 points if you found 5 rozettes with different symmetry groups and correctly identified the symmetry group.
• 25 points if you found 5 border patterns with different symmetry groups and correctly identified the symmetry group.
• 15 points if you found 3 wallpaper patterns with different symmetry groups and correctly identified the symmetry group.
