You will turn in:

  • 10-15 sketches of tessellations showing a variety of techniques and symmetry groups.
  • A finished tessellation. The tessellation should be more complicated than a p1.
  • A short paper.

One part of the grade is assigned to the tessellation you choose as your finished artwork. The 58 points for this part of the assignment are distributed as follows:

  • Mathematics - 18 points
  • Artistry - 28 points
  • Materials - 12 points

Sketchwork

You are asked to create some 10-15 sketches of tessellations using the different techniques we used in class. There is a total of 20 points to be earned in this part of the assignment.

Written Report

Your paper should be about 3-4 pages long (double spaced with normal 1 inch margins). You should discuss what sketches you produced, what difficulties you may have encountered, which one you chose as your art project and why.

You should discuss the tessellation: the underlying geometric tessellation, the isometries used and the symmetries present.
