Two figures are similar if they have the same shape, but one may be drawn at a larger scale.

In the figure above, P1 and P2 are similar. They are both triangles and the only difference is that the sides of P2 are about 1 1/2 times as long as the sides of P1. P1 and P8 are interesting. They are actually congruent! We also say they are similar.
